Houston Heights was founded in 1891. It was Texas’ earliest planned community. Houston Heights was incorporated as its own city in 1896. It was annexed by the City of Houston in 1918. The Houston Heights includes a variety of architectural styles from the turn of the century.It also provides delicious restaurants, nightlife spots, and parks and recreation. Heights has a population of over 44,000 residents. You can go to Gumbo Jeaux’s for some delicious Cajun dishes or to Coltivare Pizza & Garden for authentic Italian pizzas. People in the Heights enjoy going to one of the historic parks for biking, running, sports, or just walking the trails. Besides its vibrant character, the Heights has amazing schools available for grades kindergarten through twelfth. The schools in this area are under the Houston Independent School District and have many campuses that are part of the STEM and IB Programs.
